Recently a friend went to the local Panera Bread to pick up some lunch for both of us. I’d written up what I wanted (kind of a “custom” sandwich) and when she showed my piece of paper to the cashier, he said he’d made this sandwich for me before. (Well, I, for one, did NOT find Meg Ryan’s food ordering in “When Harry Met Sally” so out-of-bounds. Ha ha!)
He asked how I was doing and he gave her a Panera Bread customer loyalty card to give to me. He said that if I registered the card online, I’d get a free pastry or treat the first time I used the card.
I registered it. I have not yet gone to get my free treat for signing up. When registering, it says something about getting a second free treat on your birthday.
I think, but don’t quite recall, that you might build up points on the card for every Panera purchase, too.
Now, I have no idea why he didn’t give my friend a card of her own. I have no idea if any customer can get these, or if they are only a test thing, or what. I go there about once a month, and this is the first time I’ve heard of these cards.
Since they come with at least 2 free treats within a year, it might be worth a shot to ask the cashier if you can have one.
NOTE: One might or might not have to make an initial Panera Bread food purchase to receive such a card – I don’t know. If this could make this deal not technically “free”, then mods, please move thread to Deal Discussion. ![]()
