Question by justanotherguy28: is voluntarily leaving work to go back to school “good cause” for filing virginia unemployment compensation?
Is voluntarily leaving work to go back to school “good cause” when filing for virginia unemployment compensation?
yes i want the tax dollars that I paid to the state, for the last SEVEN years to help me out with a few MONTHS of compensation.
my employers do not allow set schedules, this means i may have had to work any time from 7 am to 12 pm. It was impossible to go to school (to raise earning potential) and work my job at the same time.
I am not currently in school and am seeking employment. I left work went to school for a semester and now i have no work.

Let me get this straight.
You chose to quit work to go back to school.
You want tax dollars to pay you unemployment compensation?
I’m all for you getting a better education, but I don’t want to pay for it. Why don’t you work part time and go to school part time?

u CANT COLLECT UNEMPLOYMENT BECAUSE U WANT TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL.to collect u have to be employable and u wont be if u are in school. If u got laid off, or the company closed then u can collect.
No, They would not consider this a good cause as you were gainfully employed and could of went to night school like others have
Additional information:
According to the Virgina employment website you cannot collect unemployment for going to school unless it is at night here is a link

Go to unemployment issue questions
uh…you quit a job. You are not eligible.
Unemployment is funded from a premium like an insurance policy. Not a tax dollar benefit; try welfare.
Dont be lazy!! go back to work, and go to school!….
I dont see that as a good reason for you to get unemployment compensation…
Work and go to school… if you think is too much for you…then dont go to school, or get a part time job…
I dont see why you cant do it… plenty of people do it!
ALL OF US PAY TAXES…. for many years too… does that give us the right to take from you??????? NO…
So it doesnt give you the right neither!
No generally you cannot voluntairly leave your employment and receive unemployment benefits. These benefits are reserved for those who have lost employment through no fault of their own such as a layoff. If however you are fired for reasons outside of your control, you may be able to receive unemployment compensation while attending school.
